By elevation, we mean “the action or fact of raising or being raised to a higher or more important level, state, or position. Synonyms of the word include promotion, upgrading, advancement, advance, preferment, aggrandizement, move up, and step up. Elevation or promotion is a legitimate desire of every human being. There is nothing wrong about wanting to be the head, and not the tail. Unfortunately, the way some people pursue this desire leaves much to be desired.
It is an obvious fact that very few of those who desire elevation, promotion and exaltation go about it in the right way. There are those who believe that is by their own power or efforts that they can attain great heights. Such people do not have time for God and their family and can be described as workaholics. Any time the door of their company is opened, they are the first to get there, and they are also the last to leave. They are the ones who march up and down the corridors of power at work to make sure that their bosses see them.
They think that it is the amount of time they spend in the office or that they put into their work that will cause them to be elevated. But the great amount of time spent at work may not lead to your elevation. There are some others who have entered into unholy alliance with the devil and his human agents because they want to be promoted. Such people, however, need to realize that it is only the blessing of God that makes one rich without adding any sorrow to it. Satan is nobody’s friend. There is nothing he gives to an individual that he will not take back with a huge interest. And, our Lord Jesus Christ asked, “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? What can a man give in exchange for his life?” The obvious answer is– “Nothing.” There are still some others who indulge in fornication and extra marital affairs because they want to climb the corporate ladder. Their boss may have been standing in the way of their promotion. His or her appraisal has always been negative. They never seem to be able to do anything right as far as the difficult boss is concerned.
When they begin to ask people why this man is behaving in this way toward them, they are told, “Ha! Does it mean that you don’t know?” They then proceed to tell them what the boss wants from them. Therefore, we find that although people are struggling day by day for promotion, the steps that many are taking are steps that lead to more trouble. They are steps that will ultimately fail them. The question that now comes to us is this: “Where can true elevation or promotion be found? The Bible does not leave us in any doubt concerning the source of elevation. It says that it is God, and God alone, that can exalt or promote a man to whatever position he desires. Nobody can become anything without the permission of God. And that is the reason why we must look unto God. In Ps. 75 vs. 6, the bible says- “No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt a man, but it is God who judges. He brings one down, he exalts another.” It is so plain and so unambiguous. As we journey through the new Year 2019, which God has led us to believe as Our Year of Divine Elevation, let us look up to God for promotion or elevation to heights that are greater than anything we can achieve by our own power or connection and it shall be well with us in Jesus’ name. Amen.
